I have had this microwave just over a year and have had door is open, light flicker, light not on, or off when it should and shouldn't be, and just not working. Apparently now, the switch/latch finally broke and now it is useless. If I leave it plugged in and push the door closed, the turntable turns. It is the worst.

We bought this microwave when we got a new (Whirlpool) dishwasher. Exactly one week after the warranty expired, it started saying that the door was open when it was clearly closed. After opening and closing a few dozen times (not an exaggeration), I would usually start acting right. Then one day it finally never came back on again. Not only will the microwave not work, the stove light it provided won't work. The fan also won't work. This thing is complete trash and an absolute waste of money. Now that I'm in the market for a new refrigerator, too, I'm willing to depart from Whirlpool to make sure I'm paying for a quality product, not just a name. Don't bother asking me to send my personal details and model to customer service. There's no coming back from charging this much for a product that is clearly low quality; you couldn't pay me to take another Whirlpool appliance.

I always purchased Whirlpool because they lasted. No more. The microwave has had a problem intermittantly and not worked because it wants me to close the door....when it is already closed. Now it won't work at all because of this. Very irritated that I have to spend the money on a repairman for a 3 year old microwave.

RUN! Whirlpool doesn't stand behind their products

I had the previous model WMH53520CS and how convenient that they took down this model to review on. Bought our house 3 years ago and replaced every large appliance with a Whirlpool. We have had this microwave for 3 years and have had nothing but problems with it the past year. The door switches are faulty with the "Open/Close Door" prompt, needing to be replaced every few weeks. "If" you can get the switches to work properly, the microwave will shut off 1/2 way through warming up. There are 100's of people having the same issues with that model and Whirlpool refuses to stand behind the product:

My husband brought this home as a surprise. I didn't want an over the oven microwave because I had a counter microwave. Once installed I instantly loved the look of this Microwave and it is so quiet. Very modern and instantly updated my kitchen. It is so easy to use and the features are stylish. Lots of room on the inside and does a better job than my old microwave. I love it and am very happy with my husband's surprise.

This microwave was installed in a new construction residence. It is approximately 3 years old. The light under the oven stopped working. A new light was ordered from the manufacturer. The light was installed but now cannot be turned off. I have tried several different bulbs but they all will not turn off. Can this problem be fixed?

Bought a home that had this microwave.Model WMH53521HZ-0 Yesterday it just stopped working. Build date is Aug 2017. I have had other units that gave years of trouble free service. This is junk. Reading other reviews I can see Whirlpool should not be selling microwaves.

I would expect a microwave that cost $300 or more to last more than 3 years!! I was wrong.
I have the black ice model--that has been discontinued(obviously for a reason). The light is not on often when I try to run it-- a message flashes--shut door-- and when I do , the darn thing still won't run. My faith has been shaken, and I won't make the mistake of purchasing a Whirlpool appliance in the future--Hello GE slate suite!!

This was the microwave we chose for our brand new build. Look at everyone else's message with the open close/door message. This microwave is awful and just doesn't work. We've only had it 2 years and it's been doing this for the last 6 months. Having moved from Michigan I had some trust in Whirlpool. I think that may be gone. Trust me, look elsewhere.

We purchased a new home in May 2017. This was the standard microwave that came with the house. A few weeks ago we started getting the same error message as described in the review above (open/close door). Most times, it will not turn on. Highly disappointed that it's only 18 months old and we already have to purchase a new one!

We purchased our home 1 year ago with brand new appliances. The microwave constantly says open/close door and is a huge pain to start about 85% of the time. Most recently it just plain quit working all together.

This is the worst microwave I have owned. Right after warranty period it started telling me to "Open/Close door" If the light does not come on inside you will get no power. I have had it for 4 years and this problem has been off and on, but recently continuous. Very frustrating
when you are trying to cook dinner. I chose this unit as I wanted the stainless handle to begin transiting over from white to the stainless steel appliances. I will not be buying a Whirlpool anything.
