ENERGY STAR® Qualified Meets government standards to help conserve natural resources and save money on utility bills.

CEE Tier III Qualified Based on the Consortium for Energy Efficiency qualified product listings--with Tier III being the most efficient. This model features advanced water & energy savings and may qualify for rebates from local utility companies.

H2Low wash system with Auto Load Sensing The H2Low wash system automatically senses the size of each load to use less water and deliver better cleaning performance and gentleness than a traditional top load washer.

Quiet Spin Technology Quiet Spin technology offers a unique suspension system that senses and adapts to each load, making upper-floor installation possible.

Cycle status bar The cycle status bar shows you which portion of the cycle the washer is operating, including Wash, Rinse, Spin, Done and Lid lock.

Super Wash Cycle Provides optimal cleaning for your heavily soiled fabrics and heavy, colorfast clothes. Faster spin speeds combine with Adaptive Wash technology to remove tough stains from sturdier fabrics.

EcoBoost option Get additional energy efficiency without giving up cleaning performance. This option lowers a wash cycle's overall energy use by reducing water temperature and increasing spin speed (on select models).

800 RPM Maximum Spin Speed Faster spin speeds in the washer remove more moisture from clothes, so they spend less time in the dryer.

Care Control Temperature Management Adjusts the cold and hot water inlets to reach temperatures that are warm enough to dissolve detergents. Water is kept from overheating to help reduce shrinking and/or color bleeding.

Impeller This washer's high efficiency system features a specially designed plate at the bottom of the wash basket to give you more wash capacity and better fabric care.

Wide-opening lid This top load washer features a wide-opening lid that makes it easier to load larger items inside this top load washer.

Heavy Duty Cycle Faster spin speeds plus the Adaptive Clean wash system combine to remove tough stains from sturdier fabrics.

Bulky Items Cycle Easily cleans larger items like comforters, sleeping bags, down jackets or pillows.

Delicate Cycle Low-speed wash action helps you take better care of delicate fabrics. It also works well on waterproof items like shower curtains and raincoats.

Quick Wash Cycle The Quick Wash cycle is designed to clean small loads rapidly.

Soak Cycle Choose this cycle for the added convenience of soaking heavily-soiled clothes right in the washer.

Clean Washer Cycle with Affresh® Deep-fill the washer to clean even those areas that aren't normally reached by low-water wash cycles. Add an affresh® Washer cleaner tablet for best results.

On/Off Fabric Softener Knob Use this knob to add the proper amount of water needed when using fabric softener. When not selected, washer conserves the extra water.

Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy and expensive. You probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. But if you're like most of us, protect yourself by purchasing inexpensive extended warranties when you buy a new product and save yourself big money in the long run.

Sounds like a jet taking off!

No Whirlpool 7/24/2019

I can't believe Whirlpool is still selling this machine. I bought mine 7 years ago, and we've suffered for 7 years. It's the loudest washing machine I've ever heard. It recently stopped draining and spinning, so every time I get the clothes out, they are soaking wet. I have to run the drain/spin cycle manually each time. I'm not going to pay to have it fixed, because it's so loud. I'm looking for a new washer, and I checked online to see the size specs, and found these "incentivized" reviews. Don't buy this machine.

Awesome washer

MelCol 6/20/2019

We got our washer in April and it's great! I love that it doesn't have an agitator and it senses the load so it's pretty much a customized wash every time!

I bought my washer a month ago and I absolutely love it! I love not having the agitator, I can fit so much in one load. It makes getting caught up on laundry so much easier.

Pitwithbell 6/13/2019

I absolutely love my new washer! My last washer was so bad, I had to respin every load, so doing laundry took forever and I was always backed up! This new washer cleans my laundry so well! I love not having the agitator, which would get my sheets and clothes all bunched and twisted together. Laundry is a breeze now! I should've bought this washer so long ago!

Actually washes

Erica08 6/13/2019

Iv only had this for a couple weeks but I love it. Prior to this set I had another brand. I thought half my clothes was stained. Turns out it was my washer not washing correctly. I love that I dont need to wash it multiple times to get stains out. It works great so far and hope it continues as time progresses. Would recommend.

soap on clothes

John/Lynn 5/2/2019

The worst. Incredibly loud and grinding. Can't get enough water in it to clean the clothes properly. Clothes come out frequently with soap still on them. Must always use a second rinse, nd then sometimes there's there still soap on the clothes. My suggestion, forget about pi energy saver and put some water in your machine.

Disappointment

Irene2019 2/25/2019

I bought this washer new 7.5 years ago. It was working fine until about 6 months ago when it started making noises during wash cycles. The noise became louder and more frequent. Now the loud "grinding" noise is present the entire wash cycle. I had high regards on Whirlpool products and am very disappointed with this washer I bought. According to my research online, the average lifespan of a washer is 11 years and mine started with problem in just 7 years. I plan to replace the washer before it completely stops. Sadly Whirlpool will not be my consideration anymore.

Draining/Spinning

Tayyy 2/23/2019

Yet another person who bought this washer, was very pleased at first but then noticed my clothes weren't coming out very clean and often times had that "old laundry" smell when you leave your clothes sitting in the washer for to long (despite the fact that I would take them out immediately.) There is now water in the bottom that won't drain, and the washer smells so bad it is completely unusable.

Lasted 6.5 years then ran into issues

St James 1/20/2019

Never really washed clothes well from day one. Usually found deodorant still on shirts. After 6.5 years I had to replace the lid latch assembly and shift actuator. After replacing the Whirlpool certified actuator twice in 4 months and it still does not work consistently. I'm going to give up on this washer and try my luck with an LG.

Durable and dependable! Great value for our money!

Janet1981 1/13/2019

Just over two years ago, we purchased this and the companion Whirlpool High-Efficiency Traditional Electric Dryer (AccuDry Drying System) as a pair, used. https://www.whirlpool.com/laundry/dryers/electric/p.traditional-electric-dryer-with-accudry-drying-system.wed4900xw.html Our neighbors bought them new and had them for just under a year - had to move overseas for work (on his companies dime!) so we got them for a steal!! (Thanks again Bettie and Greg!!!) This Washer and Dryer held up for us through quite a bit of laundry -- 5 total in the house, both kids in sports, hubby who works a blue collar job (gets grubby grubby!), whole family very ourdoorsy -- we work hard and play harder! Sure, we occasionally had to wash something twice to get out a stain but that was more and issue of just how bad the stains were and us letting them set in too long -- not the fault of the machine! (We couldn't have gotten those stains out in one shot with a high-end machine either.) Hubby and I have seen fancier Washers and Dryers at friends and neighbors but those folks paid 3x the price of ours for only a little bit more performance. Hubby got a raise in Nov and really nice (and unexpected!!) bonus for Xmas so we finally decided to splurge a little on new appliances -- these are still going strong (never a glitch, hiccup or repair needed) so we are giving them to his nephews family - with their two rugrats they need it! No doubt, they'll get several years more out of these. Thanks Maytag!

Easy Fix to spinning/draining problem

Another Consumer 1/6/2019

This 7 year old washer has been acting up on and off randomly for the last year. Recently it took all day to finish a load by having to set it to drain/spin several times. When it finally completely stopped spinning/draining, I figured out how to do the diagnostic test & got the error codes. It was an easy fix to have the "actuator" replaced (part #WPW10006355), and now it's working good as new. It really washes well when it's working properly. Some reviews claim this problem reoccurs. The only other issue we've had is that the liquid bleach dispenser, and the area around it is completely rusted & corroded & looks terrible. That started within the first three years. None of my previous washers ever had that problem.

A crying shame

Cracker2311 12/3/2018

I am having the Same issue as other customers where As with so many other reviewers, my machine has stopped spinning out all the water, leaves the clothes streaked with soap, and or stops mid way they cycle with little or no water use. I would not recommend this product as it is supposed to save money where it didn't in my case and it tripled my water bill. Not happy and would like to be contacted regarding this matter

DO NOT BUY

DottieD 10/6/2018

I bought this machine two years ago. The H2O low does not allow the machine to fill with enough water to even cover the clothing or what ever I'm washing. This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned. I have searching the internet for a solution to the water being too low.....people just add bucket of water. There is apparently NO way to reset these loser machines. I have the Cabrio model washer/dryer by the way. Look elsewhere for your washer.

Not happy

shawnabeane 9/6/2018

I've had my Whirlpool washer for several years and I have not had to many issues. But a few months ago it started to get really load. Then it stopped draining. Then agitating. Then working at all. I have tried to reach out to Whirlpool with no avail. Needeless to say, I have been having to go to the laundry mat or a friends house to get my clothes clean. Very disapointed in Whirlpool!

Product Defect

Suzy S 8/27/2018

I purchased this Whirlpool Washer Type 588-10; Model WTW495)XW3; Serial #C32830307 and Whirlpool Dryer Type DWSR-ELE-2406026-CV54; Model WED4900XW2; Serial #M32940241 on July 10, 2013 from Best Buy. I also purchased at that time the extended warranty. Shortly after the one year manufacturer's warranty expired, the enamel on both appliances started to bubble and peal. As you can see from the attached correspondence to Whirlpool, they were not willing to stand by their product because as they said the enamel was cosmetic and to refer to the warranty on the back of the book "Items excluded from Warranty" Number 5 states that cosmetic issues have to reported within 30 days. Seriously. A best buy repairman came out to inspect and said the same thing. They wouldn't cover it either because Whirlpool wouldn't. They suggested I repair the problem myself or purchase a glass cover for an additional $200. Now the inside rim is pealing, the side of the Dryer is all bumpy and ready to peal and crack. I understand there can be problems with this product and some of the prior reviews indicated.. What I find abhorent is a manufacturer will not stand behind their workmanship. And, by the way, made in American should stand for something.

I agree with all of the other reviews

hollyr 8/24/2018

that state this is the worst washer I ever used or owned. I had only 2 quality Whirlpool washers over a period of 25 years and purchased this one even when the old one was still working. It never cleaned clothes well. After 6 years of use, it does not complete a cycle. I have to "drain and spin" manually. Does not rinse well and no matter how I load it, it's unbalanced and cycle does not complete. It is not worth the cost to repair.

Nothing but problems

Madmom73 8/9/2018

I bought this washer 4 years ago, and was excited to have a whirlpool, thinking they last forever, boy was I wrong. I bought a 4 year extended warranty and used it quite a few times, to hear the same.old story......nothing wrong it just has to reset itself. Well now it wont even turn on, you would think a washer costing this much $$$ would last more than 4 years. I have had the same problems as many on these reviews, with the washer sounding like a jet taking off. Mine stops in the middle of the cycle....well when it turned on...and I always had to drain and spin every load for the last few months. Worst washer I have ever had.

Doesn't clean well and incredibly short lifespan

ms ARL 7/27/2018

My washer is at most 6 years old. It stopped cleaning well within the first year --weird whitish streaks/spots would sometimes show up - and more recently, something's wrong with the sensor (it screws up cycles, lid locks and then unlocks spontaneously, and/or takes forever to sense a normal load). It will cost more to get someone to look at it and fix it than it's worth. Makes far more sense to replace it and to warn others considering this machine.

Hardly any water at all

married58 7/13/2018

I dont like this machine. My husband bought this because of the high efficiency feature. I will tell you that I throw buckets of water in the machine every time I wash clothes. Otherwise they dont come out clean, and they still smell like they were not washed. My husband washes his own clothes, and I think he smells, because he doesnt use enough water in his clothes.

More than 5 years - 2 kids - no a single issue

glondono 6/4/2018

We had been using this washer for more than 5 years, sometimes on daily basis and we have never had any issues whatsoever. Runs great as the first day. Sometimes we can see the detergent does not dissolve completely and you need to rinse your clothes again (due to the low water) but the extra rise setting helps.

Bearing goes out. Do not buy

NTJP 4/15/2018

Bought this washer thinking it was a Whirlpool and would last. Checked reviews and they were good. Had no issue with it cleaning clothes. Now a few years later and the bearing is going out. Check the reviews now.... Common problem. Whirlpool does not make them like they used to. Buy a different product.

Costly Repairs

Nicki 23 3/2/2018

I bought this washing machine just over four years ago. About a month ago during the spin cycle it started to make a loud noise that sounded like a jet at take off. The bearings need to be replaced. What makes the repair worse is that the bearings are a part of the gear case making it a very costly repair. I'm not certain if this machine is even worth fixing.

I thought you were the one!

Still Soapy 2/28/2018

Our first brand new appliance in 20 years of marriage. I always buy used or get moms hand-me-downs. But for our new home, we splurged. After much research and shopping this was the one. There was a short honeymoon period. We were happy together for the first year. Then I took my first load to the laundromat because I just wasn't satisfied at home. I thought I got away with it. Then I noticed that my clothes didn't actually get wet in the washer, but I guess that is how it was from the beginning. I also thought it odd that it takes longer to do a load of "wash" than it takes to get my clothes dry cleaned. Once I started to question, this machine started to rebel. It locked me out. It held on to most of the soap. And now it has channeled the voice of a 747. Now, five years later, I am afraid I have to end it. I have learned much from this experience, how to use bad language, how to order washer parts & wade through diy repair videos, and how to avoid the pervs at the laundromat. I have to go now, my mom is here with her old washer.

Bad smell coming from machine

KellyLands 2/16/2018

We have had this machine for a couple years now. We do cycles with the Affresh but the machine still has an awful scent to it and it carries over onto our towels especially. We love the washer and was wondering if there was a filter in the back that we need to change? All of our research has not shown that there is not. Any advice? Thanks, Kelly

Works OK for 3-4 years. Parts don't last

tcskipper 2/4/2018

We've had the washer 4 years. Party of 2. small, medium loads once a week. Approx 4 loads a week. Bearing has gone out. Sounds like a jet taking off. The entire gear case has to be replaced at $220-$250 just for the part. Most washers you can replace the bearing separate. Too many complaints of the washer breaking down and needing repaired in the first 5 years of ownership.

Wonderful, Quiet Machine

jill_tx 1/31/2018

I have been super impressed with this washing machine. It uses so much less water and the clothes still come out clean. My family home uses well water so this machine by using so much less water helps us conserve our well water and lower our electric bill - a wonderful combo if you have to watch your pennies these days! I'm well pleased with my purchase of this machine! Thanks again, Whirlpool!!!

Worst Washer EVER!!

arogan3 12/28/2017

Ever since my husband bought this washer our clothes have gotten dingier and dingier because it DOES NOT wash your clothes properly! You can't come close to filling it or the top of the wash doesn't even get wet. I end up having to wash my loads 2 and 3 times, and sometimes even then they don't get clean. I cannot wait until it dies so that I can go get a new washer!

H2 Low is a horrible system!

Izabel 10/22/2017

I moved to a house with this washer and it is the first apliance we are going to replace. The washer is a regular size but you can only wash a few chothes or the water won't cover them. Such a waste of space! I have to send the duvet to a Laundry because the washer doesn't clean it (it won't get covered by water and the stains remain). Such a disappointment.

WORST WASHER EVER!

10/2/2017

This piece of garbage is not worth 1 star! Does not get clothes clean at all. Some of the clothes are still partly dry after each cycle. I work in healthcare and frequently come in contact with body fluids and disgusting bacteria. I have to make sure my clothes are clean, so I have to run the load twice every time. How is that "energy saver"?

Same issue as others but whirlp. says they have no help info

8/16/2017

As with so many other reviewers, our machine has stopped spinning out all the water. I emailed Whirlpool as I noticed they asked for further info from each customer with same issue. They emailed back, "We are sorry to learn that you are experiencing a concern with washer model WTW4950XW no longer spinning out all the water. In reviewing your concern, it was determined that there is no technical information available that will prove helpful with troubleshooting the actual cause and/or resolution for the failure being reported. As a result, you may want to consider having your washer inspected for resolution determination by a local certified factory care technician." WHAT??? Is this what they told every single reviewer who had this issue? Why are they posting replies asking for further info from each reviewer? I don't understand. Are the replies just computer generated to make WP look like they are assisting those with problems? How is it they have no idea why these washers are failing in this particular manner or what may need to be done to fix them after they have had so many reports? Did they not bother to investigate this issue at all? Of course, I didn't expect a definite answer but I did expect to be told what was usually going wrong with this model having this problem so I would have some info for a repair tech so they could possibly be prepared to fix the problem with one visit as we live many miles from any certified repair tech.Considering their response (could it be computer generated?) they have no intention of assisting us with any info. I would like to know if others received the same response and if they did get one repaired for this issue, what the tech told them about went wrong. In the end, not only would I say avoid these washers, but to avoid whirlpool appliances all together.

Stops midcycle full of water

Kurt B 7/28/2017

5 years old. Many of the negative reviews cite the same problem we are experiencing: the wash stops mid-cycle full of water, usually during the bulky wash mode. we can work with the washer at this point, but I need to know how to correct this, and this appears to be a common problem with this model. I see you've reached out to other reviewers and I would like you to do the same with me. Hope to hear from you soon.

Stops mid-cycle after 4.5 years

MomInNY 6/23/2017

We were happy with the washer for the first 4 years we owned it. Recently, it has stopped cycling through - getting stuck on the spin cycle, leaving the clothes in a lot of water. We can sometimes "override" the problem by setting the washer on Drain & Rinse, but even that doesn't always work. Nothing in the Troubleshooting section of the manual helps. We'll try a repairman but I'm not optimistic. It's well past the warranty time, but I would have expected a Whirlpool to last 9+ years. Very disappointed.
